We are delighted to invite you to our event on sanctions on the 22nd February.
During this event HFW will explain how different sanctions operate. First considering the notions of “ownership” and “control” and then moving on to examine specific products falling within sectoral sanctions including Russian origin coal, gold, metals, oil, petroleum products and the concept of “revenue generating goods”.
These sectoral prohibitions are generally accompanied by a corresponding prohibition on “related services”, such as brokering, technical assistance and financial services, which include insurance and reinsurance, which will be considered in detail.
HFW will consider how EU and UK sanctions rules may apply beyond their physical territory, how subsidiaries are impacted even if based outside the EU and/or the UK, and how EU or UK shareholders and/or directors may be held liable for the activities of a non-EU/UK company.
Finally, we will consider how sanctions impact certain insurance and reinsurance activities and how recent DIFC Court decisions in the UAE will require insurers and reinsurers to look carefully at their contractual documentation.
This topic would be relevent for all senior executives and compliance officers
